Child labor has long been a problem in our global society. This is an issue that crosses borders and affects millions of children.

However, in the last decade, there has been a significant turn against child labor and the fight to eliminate it has begun globally.

Consider some of the steps we have taken in recent years:

International Commitments: World leaders and organizations have recognized the urgency of the issue. In 2015, the United Nations developed the Sustainable Development Goals to end child labor in all its forms by 2025. This global commitment spurred action.

Legislative changes: Many countries have strengthened child labor laws and regulations. These changes provide a legal framework to combat the problem and hold perpetrators accountable.

Awareness Raising: Over the years, advocacy groups, NGOs and the media have played a crucial role in raising awareness about child labour. This increased visibility strengthened public opinion and gained support for anti-child labor initiatives.

Corporate Responsibility: More companies are recognizing their role in child labor. Corporate responsibility initiatives and audits have become more common, encouraging ethical practices.

Despite the progress, child labor remains a pressing problem worldwide and it is imperative that everyone is informed about the measures taken.

In 2022, Georgia faced challenges in this regard, where 15 violations of labor rights involving minors were detected. These violations were followed by strict measures, including a fine of 85,300 GEL.

The types of economic activities with violations of child labor included:

• Agriculture, forestry and fish farming
• manufacturing industry,
• wholesale/retail trade,
• financial/insurance activities,
• Accommodation and food delivery activities.

2 of the detected violations are in the field of agriculture, forestry and fish farming.

1 violation was reported in the manufacturing industry.

In wholesale and retail trade, along with the repair of automobiles and motorcycles, 8 violations were registered.

3 violations were registered in the accommodation and food supply sector.

1 violation was registered in financial and insurance activities.

Eradicating child labor is not just a goal, it is a moral imperative, and with sustained commitment, we can create a better future for generations to come.
